Effective 2 April 2016, stage 2 of the Motorcycle Graduated Licencing System will be implemented in Victoria. This is in response to the level of fatalities among novice riders. Research by Vic Roads indicates that inexperience is a major cause contributor to Victorian Motorcycle crashes.
Training and testing regime with an emphasis on a robust process for riders to graduate through different phases as they develop their riding skills. The new motorcycle graduated licencing system is proposed to be introduced in two stages:
- STAGE 1—- Commenced October 1st 2014
- STAGE 2—- Commenced April 2nd 2016
Theses changes will not be retrospective and will therefore only apply to riders who receive their learners permit or licence after the introduction of the new scheme.
