Transport of Dangerous Goods

Course Outline

Initial licence: This program aims to meet the National Competency Standards, licencing requirements in accordance with WorkSafe and the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods. The program also educates drivers of the responsibilities associated with the transportation of dangerous goods.

Participant must:

  • Original and photocopy of current drivers licence
  • Under go a medical examination for Commercial Vehicle Drivers
  • Provide a driving history report from the appropriate road authority.
  • Have reasonable English literacy skills

The course is accredited by Work Safe Victoria as providing the necessary skills and knowledge to enable participants to receive/renew the licence required to carry bulk dangerous goods.

At completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify requirements for working with Dangerous Goods and/or Hazardous Substances.
  • Select handling techniques
  • Assess suitability of transport mode for intended load
  • Identify and follow emergency procedures and equipment
  • Evaluate documented route plan
  • Complete assessment process

  • 4.3 Dangerous when wet
  • 5.1 Oxidising Agents
  • 5.2 Organic Peroxides
  • 6.1(a) Toxic substances
  • 8 Corrosives
  • 9 Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods
  • In addition, the following key subject areas are covered:

  • Vehicle Placarding
  • Transport requirements
  • Safety Requirements
  • Emergency procedures

Aust-Link will issue a Statement of Attainment to successful participant on completion of this course. This training may be delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government subsidised funding for eligible applicants.
